AHAN Health Awareness Competition
This competition promotes engagement among youth and young adults with health challenges in their communities. It recognizes individuals that have displayed a creative and solution-oriented approach to these health issues.
Call for Submissions: October 1st annually
2026 Competition: call for entries, October 1, 2025
In the 2025/2026 cycle, applicants will submit health campaign videos or short films that address issues related to emergency care and basic life support scenarios in their community. No previous filmmaking or related experience is required.
Requirements
- Applicants must be between the ages of 16 – 30 at the time of the competition
- Applicants must reside in Nigeria
- Applications must be received by February 1 at 5PM EST. Late submissions will not be considered
Submission Guidelines
- Submissions MUST be received by FEBRUARY 1. Selected finalists will be contacted by April 1 of each year.
- Applicants must share a Youtube or Vimeo link to their entries in the application.
- There is no cost to submit your video, and no previous experience in filmmaking or the health fields is required.
- A successful creative content must have the following attributes:
- A suitable title that highlights the video’s focus.
- A content that focuses on a specific issue or story related to emergency care and has a central message.
- A video that does not exceed 5 minutes in length. Submissions longer than 5 minutes will not be reviewed.
- A video that is edited with proper transitions and a credits page.
- An original video that is created solely by the applicant.
NOTE: Video types are wide-ranging and are not genre-specific. Narrative video, Documentary, Public Service Announcement (PSA), Biographical, Comedy, Music video, Interviews etc. are all acceptable.

Review Criteria
Submissions will be judged on the following:
- Creativity: How unique is the applicant’s approach?
- Audio/Visual elements: Does the video have appropriate background, lighting, audio, editing, etc.?
- Awareness: How well does the video educate its audience? Will this message be impactful and received clearly by varying audiences?
- Sustainability: How can the video be expanded for future use or transmitted across varying media and platforms?
Award
There will be a 1st place winner and a runner up
- Brand new laptop for 1st place winner
- $500 cash prize for first place winner and runner up, respectively
- Profile on the AHAN website for each winner
- Video to be featured on select media platforms for educational and awareness purposes
- Basic Life Support / Emergency Care Training (optional paid assignments following the successful completion of the BLS training)
- 1 year ambassador for the AHAN program
AHAN Ambassador Obligations
If selected as an AHAN winner or runner up, the individual must agree to fulfill the following obligations for the 1-year AHAN Ambassadorship:
- Attendance at Annual AHAN fundraiser/award ceremonies
- Participation in the AHAN Newsletter / Social Media pages
- Participation in AHAN’s BLS/Emergency Care Training. Accommodation and ground transportation will be provided for winners to attend AHAN’s BLS/emergency care training, after which the winners will have the opportunity to join trainees on paid assignments, at AHAN’s discretion.
Important Deadlines
- Competition begins in October of each year.
- Videos must be submitted by February of each year
- All applicants will be notified by April of each year
- Awards will be given to winners in June of each year
